How to Apply a LUT in VN Video Editor
VN is a free video editor for iPhone and Android, and it can load your own LUTs. Here's how to get one in and onto your clip. It takes about two minutes.
What you need
- The VN app on your phone
- A LUT in .cube format. You can make your own with Online LUT Creator.
Import your LUT
- Save the .cube file to your phone. Download it directly, or send it from your computer.
- Open your project in VN, tap a clip on the timeline, then tap Filter.
- Create a folder for your LUTs. Tap the ^ arrow beside the filter categories, tap New Folder, name it, then tap Create Filter Library.
- Import the file. Open your new folder, tap Import Filter, then find and tap your .cube file. VN imports one file at a time, so repeat this for each LUT.
Apply it
Go back to the Filter panel, open your folder and tap your LUT. It's now on your clip.
If the look is too strong, check the Filter panel for a strength control, or turn the exposure and contrast down on the clip itself.
Tips for a better result
- Fix the clip first. LUTs work best on footage that's already well exposed and white balanced.
- Use the same LUT across a video so your clips feel like they belong together.
- Can't find the menu? VN's layout changes between versions. Also look under + > Creation Kits > Filters > My Filter.
